Conflict, Avoid! Avoid!

It’s what I do, apparently. No, not apparently, it is 100% what I do! One of our classes required us to complete the Thomas-Kilman Conflict Mode assessment. I scored in the 95th percentile for avoidance. This has not served me well. At least, not entirely. My unwillingness to meet conflict head on means that I avoid saying what I mean, articulating what I need or want, and generally try to go with the flow even when the flow is in the wrong direction.
This is something I need to understand and work on. It is why I tend to be quiet and in the background. Even if I can add value, I won’t. I never want to vulnerable or seen as disagreeable. In the end, that is likely exactly how I am seen. Disagreeable, or at a minimum disengaged and uninterested.
